Not only being in police work I am also a paramedic which is required for my position, although I do not practice as a paramedic.

There are many open wounds which don’t bleed for various reasons. Cuts/wounds may not bleed because they were caused by a very sharp instrument and this causes the small vessels to clamp shut on their own which stops bleeding.

There are many types of open wounds including gunshots where you can see an open wound where the projectile goes in and because of the force and heat it instantly closes off the blood vessels. However, an open wound under these circumstances are most likely bleeding on the inside of the body into the abdominal or chest cavity and is a very serious wound and is life threatening. You can “bleed out” internally with no or very little blood oozing from the entry point.

A lot of amputations such as having a leg or arm severed do not bleed on the outside and are bleeding substantially on the inside and are life threatening. Just because you don’t see blood oozing from a cut or wound does not mean it is not life threatening.

First, you should see a doctor about getting the cut stitched up if it is so open you can see bone underneath. Your bones should not be exposed to the outside environment, as this could introduce a deep infection which may lead to necrotic tissues (chunks of dead flesh).

To answer your question, there are a few reasons why it might not bleed:

    • Extremely clean cuts rupture fewer blood vessels. There may simply be fewer opening for you to bleed out of, and less trauma to the surrounding tissue that would normally cause stress hormones (histamine) to be released that would increase bleeding.
    • The circulation in your hands is very poor. This can be caused if you have diabetes, are older, it is very cold, you are especially dehydrated, or if you are simply naturally predisposed to having poor circulation
    • You by chance missed all major blood vessels. Small capillaries are the most prone to shutting off blood when cold (or due to other causes) and so may not bleed noticeably in the first few minutes after the cut. You will however still bleed and the surface of the cut will appear bright red. If there was no bleeding at all whatsoever, the cut surface of your tissue would not be bright red, but instead pinkish (similar to raw pork).

The absence of strong bleeding only heightens the need for stitches since you don’t want the two cut surfaces to scar over separately instead of together. If they heal independently, and leave bone exposed to the outside air it could increase the possibility of other long-term problems.

Good luck, and congrats on not being a hemophiliac!

Top plastic surgeon: How to improve your neck’s appearance.

This at home trick can take years off of your neck’s appearance.

Well it sort of depends on how deep the cut is. If it’s fairly shallow it may not bleed very much, if at all.

If you had said how deep it was I could probably give you a more accurate answer, but as it is, it would be hard to answer you.

It also depends on what cut you. Sometimes it misses main veins and arteries and only small vessels are cut, which can close off quickly.

I get the feeling from your question this wound happened a few hours ago, if I’m right then bleeding is over and all veins are shut down. It will need suturing or it will leave a nasty scar and, of course, while open it could pick up an infection.

    Over to you 🙂

Do your bones really show, or are you using it as a figure of speech?

If bones really show, see a competent doc ASAP, it needs cleaning, closing by stitching, maybe using butterfly closure, deep wounds should be seen by a doc anyway.

Why should you bleed? We have very effective clotting mechanisms stopping us from bleeding out.

People who don’t stop bleeding is of great concern to us, since it could point to them having a blood clotting problem, which can be invalidating if happening all the time into the joints.

Blood is necessary for a wound to heal and close. So I’d say it’s bad rather than good if an obvious injury doesn’t bleed. See a doctor, maybe just needs to be sewed shut.

What companies will send people money when they’re asked nicely?

Here are five companies that will help.

when? right after? maybe it wasn’t deep enough. Maybe it got cauterized by whatever cut you. Maybe it’s healing and the bleeding is already stopped. Maybe it will only bleed if you hit it again and reopen it. Maybe it has serous fluid over the white blood cell proliferation and underneath it’s using the fresh bleeding to heal the tissue.

But I hope you are not looking at your bone and typing into quora. Did you see the bone and you still see it. or did it seem to protrude for a brief period of time and then recover itself? And what caused it

A freshly cut wound will always bleed. If the wound was caused by an ulceration, it usually will not bleed as the small vessels that normally bleed are thrombosed by the inflammation causing the ulceration. I doubt you are seeing the bone but most likely the fibrous tissue between muscle layers. In any case it needs medical attention. It likely will not be closed at this late date but allowed to heal by granulation. However, the cause for this has to be defined and treated if necessary.

Why some doctors in the know no longer prescribe blood pressure drugs.

If a person receives a very deep cut and does not bleed at all the clinical diagnosis is … dead.
