It has been proven long time ago that people suffering from mental illnesses are in a greater risks of physical diseases,
and vice versa the people suffering from physical chronic conditions (such as diabetes or cardiovascular diseases) are in greater risk of depression and other mental health issues:
I wish more people embrace the fact that there is no artificial separation between the body and mind. The mind is in the brain and the brain is part of the body, there is no separation, the health of the body is going to affect the health of the brain. The brain needs neurotransmitters (such as serotonins and dopamine) to work correctly, neurotransmitters are developed in our gut. It means that if your gut doesn’t work properly your brain won’t be as well.

Both are extremely important.
However, your mind controls your thoughts and essentially your life so it is crucial to make sure you have your mind in check first. Most people fixate on their outer appearance and do not take the time to really work on their mental and emotion health.
Once you have a healthy mind, it makes obtaining a healthy body so much easier.
Many people workout and have amazing bodies but are miserable inside. I personally used to be this way. I remember a time in college when I was OBSESSED with being as ripped as possible.

To be totally honest, you cannot separate one from the other, simply because they are interdependent.
To have a healthy mind, it requires a constant flow of oxygen to enable the mind/brain to exist and thrive in peak condition.
However if you have an unhealthy body, one of the first things that suffers are your red-blood cells … and they are the ones responsible for carrying and delivering oxygen to all the parts of your body.
This is particularly the case where obesity means excessive blood-sugar levels and the pancreas fails to do provide enough insulin to regulate that blood sugar level. When that happens your red blood cells become coated in the residue of the sugar in your bloods which restricts them from absorbing the oxygen and delivering it to the various organs – including the brain.
One of the very common symptoms of this that I experienced before I made the change to a healthier lifestyle, was falling asleep after a meal. This is occurs when your brain becomes deprived of the oxygen it needs and literally starts to shut down.

I’m a huge believer in the power of our mind being of the utmost importance as, even if we aren’t physically well, we have the power inside to change it. I know I did.
As the mind is generated by the body, one would think that the healthy body would be the answer, but it’s more complicated than that. The mind is the dance of behaviors on the brain and seems indelibly tied to it, so we should expect an unhealthy brain to lead to all sorts of bad things, and this obviously happens. But the cool thing is that the brain can remake itself and the body, as well.
Think about that: we can think about being different and then become different. Just by thinking (and then acting, too, obviously)! Of course, you have to think about it first, so it’s a complicated loop.
