A2A: Your benefits must be available to you by the opening of bank business on the day the check is actually due. Now, some banks will go ahead and deposit them as soon as they receive the wire transfer, which always comes to them a few days early. This depends on the individual bank’s policy.

In any event, it must be made available as of opening of business on the due date.

Social Security direct deposits are on the second, third, and fourth Wednesday of the month depending on your birthday.

If your birthday is between the 1st to the 10th day of the month, your deposit will be on the 2nd Wednesday of the month.

If your birthday is between the 11th to the 20th day of the month, your deposit will be the 3rd Wednesday of the month.

If your birthday is between the 21st and the last day of the month, your deposit will be the 4th Wednesday of the month.

There is a Social Security calendar posted online each year that indicates when Social Security deposits occur.

My and my wife’s checks are deposited on or around noon the day before when they are due to be paid. Hers is scheduled for the third Wednesday of the month and mine on the fourth Wednesday. This has been fairly consistent over the years with only an occasional variation by an hour or so. Hope this answers your question

To my knowledge they don’t say a time. They do say a day. Time depends on your bank.

Most banks you can set up for a notice when deposits happen. My SS is a certain day of a certain week each month; never fails. I get message to my phone! But no time. Which is fine.

Social Security Direct Deposited payments are posted at a bank’s beginning of business time on the date the payment is due.

You will get paid on one of the 4 Wednesdays of the month so when you get paid varies as much as 5 days difference but on the day you get paid it will be in your account a minute after midnight. Why they pay this way instead of a certain date is beyond me but then we are talking government and hardly anything they do makes sense.

Social Security deposits are transmitted a few days early. Posting time depends upon your bank’s posting procedures. The funds will be available to you by the beginning of the banking day on the scheduled payment date at the latest.

Unless you have been receiving Social Security benefits since before 1997, deposits are made on the 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Thursday of the month. If your birth date was between the 1st and 10th your pay date will be the 2nd Thursday of the month. If your birth date is between the 11th and the 20th it’s the 3rd Thursday. All others are paid in the 4th Thursday.

Correction. Social Security deposits are scheduled on Wednesdays, not Thursdays. Thanks to Patrick Pine for the correction.

It will appear in your bank account on the morning of the day it is due. If you are scheduled to receive the money on the third Wednesday of the month, for example, then you will see it at the bank’s opening time that day.

There is no one time that “most” deposits post. It all depends upon when the transaction arrives at the bank’s computers and the bank’s posting procedures.

The Automated Clearinghouse (ACH) system runs 24 x 7 x 365. It knows no weekends or holidays. Therefore a transaction can arrive at any day or time.

Some banks post in real time while others batch process at the end of the banking day. Some use a hybrid of the two systems.

If your bank posts in real time then a direct deposit will show up shortly after it arrives as long as the payment date is current or in the past and the various audit and fraud tests pass.

If the bank posts at the end of the banking day (usually 3: 00 PM local time) then all deposits will be available at the beginning of the next banking day. So if a deposit arrives on Monday before 3: 00 PM your money will be available by 9: 00 AM on Tuesday.

If a deposit arrives after the end of banking day it will be processed with the next day’s business and the funds will be available at the beginning of the 2nd banking day. For example, a deposit that arrives at 5: 00 PM on Monday will process after 3: 00 PM on Tuesday and will be available by 9: 00 AM on Wednesday.

Hybrid systems typically post in real time during the banking day and queue anything that arrives after the end of the banking day until the beginning of the following banking day.

Recurring deposits like payroll and Social Security often arrive a few days early. They are queued until the pay date on the transaction and then post at the beginning of that banking day.
