The response to your question varies and dependent on the cause it can vary a fair bit. When I think of the typical individual, say 65 or so then many in this group would show signs of white matter disease on a cat scan. That being said and advancing case would make some one to loose cognitive capabilities, muscle tone and cord.

According to WebMD, White Matter Disease can be reversed if you can reverse the underlying cause.

In truth, the underlying cause is usually age plus diabetes, or heart problem, or high blood pressure, or all 3 and more, which, combined with age, are all almost impossible to reverse.

White Matter Illness is progressive. It is a type of dementia, however does not follow any particular path, as Alzheimer’s types do, and while death waits at the end of any dementing disease’s course, White Matter Illness usually ends when the person strokes or the kidneys or heart stops working.

FYI – “White Matter Illness” of the brain is not just one disease! It is a label for a group of illness that involve the WM, from genetic to inflammatory to ischemic, at least. Since different illness have various diagnoses, it is impossible to address this concern unless the real name of the disease is specified!

Should I be under anyone’s care if I have a subcortical white matter illness?

No, if it is a chance finding on MRI taken for example because you have headache or migraine.

Yes, if it was found in the course of the investigation of disabling neurological symptoms.

Subcortical white matter signal change on MRI brain scan is a normal age related finding, just like an X-ray revealing arthritis is not a surprise in an individual who is no longer extremely young.

Does appropriate food digestion control diabetes?

Yes! Personally, I experienced unpleasant cramping, irregular bowel movement and low energy after consuming big meals for 6 months prior to ending up being severe about discovering a solution to this problem. It didn’t feel normal to feel so uncomfortable and puffed up after eating most meals. I started consume

White matter disease triggers issues such as can’t think or concentrate, dripping urine, off balance ect

There is no cure for the and it is progressive however it can be helped by the reason for why it started such as heart disease, diabetes, smoking cigarettes ect the physicians will need to figure out what triggered white matter illness and address those problems.

lowfat low salt diet, keeping blood sugar level in check, getting two hour of moderate exercise a week can aid with it advancing

It manly impacts older aging adults.

Please see a family physician or specialist in this for your care.

Please see Dr. Chalpin’s response. This is a radiologic finding, not a particular illness entity. There’s over 100 disorders that can cause this finding. It’s definitely not a good thing – it’s highly associated with dementia and stroke risk – but not terminal.

There are a couple holistic medicine responses here that are unscientific and I believe irresponsible and even economically motivated. Please skirt around these if possible.

White matter are the packages of nerve fibers in the brain. The afferent neuron bodies are what is called grey matter. These nerve fibers have layers and layers of membranes wrapped around them, called myelin, which serve a protective function and assist in faster nerve conduction. An excellent example is wiring – white matter are the wires in between start and endpoints.

There are a number of causes for “white matter illness’ which is typically loss of the sheaths that protect the nerves. Inflammation is one of the crucial functions, and one product of inflammation is excess production of nitric oxide (I discovered this back in the ’90’s and it is due to the activation of dormant gene). It is useful for eradicating infections and cancer but when activated wrongly there can be havoc. One of the factors that my research study described is the subsequence conversion of nitric oxide (NO) to the very same gases as smog (NO2, N2O3) through their reaction with oxygen. This is sped up within the sheaths (myelin) around nerve fibers (the white matter) about 360 fold. These gases interfere with lots of reactions and biochemical havoc. Routine smog is connected to brain damage and cognitive decline for the exact same reasons. This matches the data that shows that if you live near traffic you have a far higher incidence of cognitive problems.

Related to these events are other chauffeurs – immune activation is one. However one of the better accepted chauffeurs is ischemia or loss of blood perfusion. This may arise from vascular disease (high blood pressure, diabetes) along with sleep apnea where the blood oxygen levels drop throughout sleep since of poor oxygenation.

In lots of circumstances all of the systems can act together or in series depending on the person.

What to do about it? I would focus on what are the causes and resolve them. Anti-inflammatory supplements should be considered – examples would be feline’s claw, curcumin, Boswellia along with omega-3 fatty acids. NSAIDS will not be effective.

I would also highly prompt free extreme scavengers that work in membranes (the sheath) – the best is astaxanthin (the carotenoid that makes salmon pink) as it the most potent free radical scavenger known and fits completely in membranes. Make sure its is natural – synthetic kinds are twisted and not as effective.

Your physician knows how to treat this. This might help:
