    Usually CBD is helpful for treating anxiety, not causing it.

    However some people who are new to CBD have experienced a “counter” effect. This happens when they take more than their body can handle, and it overwhelms their system.

    So if you are prone to anxiety and you start taking CBD, start slow for the first few days and work your way up to the recommended dosage just to be safe!

    The vast majority of people are totally fine though, and the CBD tends to help them reduce their anxiety 🙂

    A compound found in the marijuana plant, cannabidiol has increased in availability as marijuana use is legalized in more and more states across the country.     I’ve always had some level of anxiety/social anxiety since my teens. Sometimes was worse than others but I’ve always just kind of rode it out.

    After the better part of a decade working 12 hours shifts in a high-stress environment, mostly overnight, along with other lifes goings ons, I tried medication after noticing that my anxiety just kept getting worse after a few months instead of the regular roller-coaster effect it normally went through. I also had an insomnia problem from my inconsistent sleep schedule. Two different medications made me just feel disconnected from my emotions and mind, I didn’t like it at all and would rather have anxiety than feel like that.

    Looking into holistic remedies, I discovered CBD. I noticed a slight improvement with the first product I tried, then after doing a little more research and landing a high quality (and very expensive) product, it worked so well that it felt weird to feel normal again.     I am 100% a believer in CBD, but it’s important not be naive and think that it works as effectively for every single person in the same way.

    From my experience, I’ve seen the following in downsides in certain situations:

    1. It can lead to drowsiness.
    2. It can lead to an upset stomach if not taken with food.
    3. It can lead to nausea (usually, again if not taken with food)

    Their are several very important factors to consider when taking CBD.

    1. Dosage
    2. The source of the oil/salve and how it was made.
    3. The potency

    Let’s start with dosage.

    There is not really 1 size fits all with CBD when it comes to dosage, but many people simply start too low and don’t feel the effects. It takes a little while to get into the system, especially with oils. It’s been said that only 6% of many popular CBD oils actually get fully absorbed into the body. So dosing with enough is very key. A good rule of thumb-if you take say .5 ml of CBD consistency for 5–7 days and arent’ really noticing the effects, it may make sense to look at upping the dosage.

    Many of the most popular CBD products today are made from various batches of hemp or cannabis plants that are not lab tested properly for efficacy and free of toxins and pesticides. This matters! Additionally, many CBD products are made from isolates that may not work as effectively as a full spectrum blend. Some CBD products are made from a “paste” that is imported from places such as Spain, and it’s very inconsistent. Before buying a CBD oil, make sure that you know where the hemp was grown, how it was processed, and if it’s been 3rd party lab tested. Many companies also put fillers, sweeteners, and other ingredients to “water down” the product.


    This relates to dosage but many times you’ll hear people say, “I tried CBD and I just didn’t feel anything!” This is simply because they aren’t taking a product that is potent enough. Look at the actual CBD mg PER ml and you can get a good idea of what products are cheap and which products have a high efficacy and potency.

    CBD works as an anxiolytic, it has anti-anxiety effects. I have never heard any anecdotes or read in any research that it has an anxiogenic (anxiety-producing) effect.

    THC, on the other hand, is biphasic in this respect. At low levels, THC works as an anxiolytic. At high levels, it can be anxiogenic. There’s no defined amount to get a person to this point, it’s usually very high doses like found in some marijuana strains, but I suppose if someone were super sensitive, it could happen at a lower level.

    CBD isolate will help your anxiety. Full-spectrum hemp CBD contains very small amounts of THC, amongst other compounds, that will better help your anxiety than CBD alone. Once you move into the marijuana realm with higher ratios of THC, its possible your anxiety can become worse.

    For higher THC products, micro-dosing is very effective in sensitizing your CB1 receptors to THC so that you can get the same benefits using less product, and avoid that threshold into THC becoming anxiogenic (anxiety-producing).

    There are many factors that determine how cannabinoids will affect a person, the best thing you can do is start with a basic dose and product, and experiment to see what helps you.

    Define “hangover.” If by that you mean a headache upon awakening, not caused by sinus infection or low-grade fever, no—so long as it’s from a reputable brand that regularly submits its stuff to independent 3rd-party lab testing and makes the reports freely available on the web. If you get a headache from your CBD, then switch brands or even types.

    But if you mean a continued drowsiness and “logy” feeling after even a good night’s sleep, then even a reputable brand of full-spectrum (or even THC-free “broad-spectrum”) CBD that contains too much CBN and other cannabinoids & terpenes to which you have a hypersensitivity or intolerance might—similar to how you might feel upon awakening after having taken Lyrica, Benadryl, or too much Xanax or Valium. In that case, take only 100% pure CBD (Select is one of those brands)—at least an hour before bedtime and make sure you have at least 6 hours to sleep before your alarm (real or internal) goes off.

    It bad idea to start out with more than 10mg of CBD per day. The general mantra is start low, and build slow. There is no reason to take more CBD than needed (it’s easier on the pocket book). A good starting dose is 5-10mg. If you don’t struggle with sleep – morning might be the best time to take the CBD, as you will be more likely to see the benefits throughout the day. If you struggle with falling asleep, or staying asleep you will want to take your 5-10mg dose right before bed like me .
